Variators for scooters are the essential moving part of the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) found today in most scooters. A scooter variator provides the smooth transmission gearing in the automatic twist & go type machines. This combination of CVT variator auto-shift with the eco-friendlier 4-stroke GY6 engine design has all but replaced the older manual gearbox 2-strokers of the past.
Essentially expandable discs with six ramps and roller weights, vaiators for scooters are the most significant milestone in scooter technology for over a half-century. Although using an amazingly simple technology, the CVT variator sparked a revolution in scooter design that now encompasses all of the major scooter brands.
