Description
Description
Jerky or rough speed control usually means it's time to replace your scooter's potentiometer. This is the first generation 25K ohm speed potentiometer assembly for the Pride Legend (SC300), Celebrity X (SC400), Dynamo (SC180), Sidekick (SC200), and Sundancer (SC202) mobility scooters.
The 25K ohm speed pot was mainly used on early Pride scooters and is not compatible with the later models that used 100K ohm speed pots. This potentiometer is serial number specific for some models, so please refer to the Compatibility list of scooters that use this potentiometer.
Speed potentiometers are sometimes referred to as a speed pots or rabbit/turtle dials. A failing speed potentiometer will cause inconsistent speed control. Speed pots are very inexpensive items and they should be replaced immediately for the safety of both the scooter and the user.
You will need to do your own wiring . The directions below must be followed precisely. Please refer to the photograph.
A. There are three ring-tabs on the underside of the potentiometer that need wiring attached. Turn the pot upside down so the tabs are on top and the shaft is facing toward you.
B. You will need to connect the middle ring-tab and the right side ring-tab as shown in the close-up photo. These can either be bent together and soldered, or they may be bridged or "jumped" with an additional piece of wire spanning the ring-tabs.
C. We strongly recommend soldering the wiring for a secure connection. A patient mechanic with perfect eyesight might be able to thread the wires through the connector loops and crimp them securely, however we strongly discourage this type of connection in lieu of good proper soldering.
