U1 batteries are the most commonly used sealed lead acid battery for mobility scooters and power chairs, particularly for—but not restricted to—the ever popular Pride Mobility brands (Pride mobility chairs, and Jazzy and Jet power chairs) and Invacare brand mobility scooters. The U1 battery has achieved its remarkable market share through its reputation for being the ideal tradeoff between battery size and battery range. Depending on the battery manufacturer, a group U1 battery can be rated anywhere between 31 Amp-hours (Ah) and 35 Amp-hours.

In addition to their use on mobility scooters and power chairs, U1 batteries can be found providing the cranking power to uncounted thousands of boats, jet skis, lawn mowers, garden tractors, utility vehicles, and heavy duty snow blowers. Some of the stationary uses of Group U1 batteries include emergency lighting systems, gate openers, solar energy collectors, and a wide range of other useful home, business, and industrial applications.

  • What is a Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Battery?

  • Rechargeable sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries are the most common battery found in scooters and motorcycles. A rechargeable SLA battery contains electrodes of lead and lead oxide suspended in sulfuric acid. As the lead and the sulfuric acid combine, there is a significant electrical discharge as a byproduct of the chemical reaction. This discharge in turn powers your scooter’s motor or electric ignition system. Sealed lead acid batteries have a low power-to-weight ratio compared to other commercially available batteries, which makes them ideal for high current applications such as mobility or recreational scooters.

  • How do I know if I need a U1 Battery?
  • As a general rule, you should always check the owner’s manual for your mobility scooter or power chair prior to purchasing a replacement battery. The U1 battery can be listed in documentation in a few different ways, but we at Monster Scooter Parts have seen it most commonly listed as "U1 Batteries (AGM/GEL)" and "31-35 Ah Batteries)". In the absence of the owner’s manual or other information direct from the manufacturer, a group U1 battery can be identified by reading the label on the battery cell. Any sealed lead acid battery rated at 12 volts with an Amp-hour rating of 31 through 35 is a U1 battery.

NOTE: When you buy a U1 battery from Monster Scooter Parts, we will provide free shipping. This offer is only valid for batteries shipped within the United States. The free shipping offer will be applied automatically to your shopping cart when you are placing your order.
