Band Brakes

Band brakes are a type of small drum brake used on many of today's popular small, low power, electric scooter models. Unlike the larger drum brakes used on automobiles, band brakes provide braking friction by using a spring-like metal band that clamps down on the spinning drum or rotor. Typically only used on electric scooters as gas scooters normally are equipped with disc brake rotors and brake calipers.

This relatively simple but very effective scooter brake system combines light weight and fewer moving parts, with smooth stopping.
