Description

This 24 volt 5.0 amp XLR battery charger from Universal Power Group (UPG) keeps your mobility scooter or power chair charged and ready to go. It suits the 17 Ah or larger batteries used on scooters and power chairs with an off-board female XLR charging socket, and it is a fully compatible replacement for the HP8204B charger.

Unlike most chargers, it works with both AGM and Gel batteries. Set the selector switch to GEL or AGM to match your battery type before charging. Use it only on sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries; it is not compatible with lithium batteries. The instructions may say "suitable for lead acid batteries only." AGM and Gel batteries are both sealed lead acid types, so the charger works with both, though it is optimized for AGM.

It is a fully automatic 3-stage charger (bulk, absorption, float) that switches to float mode when charging is complete, so the battery can stay connected. It has short circuit protection (self-recovering once the fault is removed), reverse polarity protection, and low voltage protection: it will not start charging if the batteries are below 18 volts. Three LEDs show power on, charging and charged. Charging time varies with how deeply the batteries are drained.
